Making Room for Creativity

Creativity. Difficult to describe. Get’s us from good to great. Can’t be forced.

But how do you make it unfold? How do you make room for creativity? Sir Ken Robinson gives an excellent talk on the matter here:

The point that really struck me, is that we need to allow each other to make a mistake. We need to allow ourselves to make a mistake. You can’t do the unexpected and not make a mistake every once in a while. And playing safe every time will not get you anywhere extraordinary.

This point wouldn’t surprise a photographer. He takes lots of shot, plays with the light, plays with the composition, waits for the right moment. And there you have it - picture number 2741. It turned out magic.

But on the way to that, of course he deletes a lot of semi good shots. And a photographer would never blame him self for making a bad shot. He would simply move on.

Then why do we blame ourselves for making mistakes?

Thanks for posting the video! The thought of allowing or expecting to make a mistake is pretty cool. We know that no one is perfect yet we set our expectations too high for people sometimes. That is something I am constantly working on.
