No arms, no legs, no limits!
As mentioned I want to use this blog to tell the stories of extraordinary people.
Nick Vujicic is definitely one of those! He was born without arms and legs but is living a happy life, living out his dreams and serving others. His life is a living testimony of courage, will power and faith.
Growing up without arm and legs was a struggle to be sure. His story is also a tale of a young man who wanted to end his life. He needed help with practically everything, was bullied at school and didn’t see a future for himself as he thought he wouldn’t be able to do the things he dreamed of: Living independently, having an education, getting a job, getting married, having children.
At 15 he read about the blind man in the Bible, who Jesus said was blind so the glory of God could be revealed on him. Jesus healed the blind man, and Nick made a plan: “OK, God. You give me arms and legs and it will be a great testimony. I will travel the world and tell everyone about you. I will do anything. I will be famous, speak on the Oprah Winfrey Show - Come on, it would be awesome!”
God hasn’t answered that prayer yet. But Nick is traveling the world to tell you, that if God does not answer your prayer, it is because he has something better for you. And guess what: Today Nick has an education, a job, his own house and he lives independently. He enjoys swimming, golfing, surfing and has written a book about his life. He travels the world and speaks to thousands of people in schools, prisons, business circles, orphanages and hospitals. And he will be on the Oprah Winfrey Show!! (She just doesn’t know yet.)
You can watch him share how he went from a life without limbs to a life without limits here:
It is his passion to see lives touched and changed, and he does that speaking to kids, teenagers, handicaped, parrents, businesmen and women around the globe. He is in India these days.
Here are a few points from his talks on self esteem, dreaming big and overcoming obstacles:
“You are beautiful just the way you are.”
“Do you know the difference between happiness and joy? Happiness makes you happy when the happenings of your life are going well. The joy of the Lord is knowing that no matter what happens God is with you and He will never forsake you, He will never leave you.”
“About dreaming big: If you want to see your full potential in your ministry, do not focus on your capabilities. Focus on your availabilities. When you make yourself available for God’s work - in and through you - to reach out to the world some wonderful thing are gonna happen! It is happening to me right now.”
“It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. You can fail 100 times and still have victory. It matters how you finish. Never, ever give up!”
I love the way these words have so much power imbedded in his personal story of being born without limbs.
